Mapping the Palm Beaches

Posted by Amanda Hicks on Thursday, April 26th, 2018 at 4:48pm.

Since most of the cities in Palm Beach County contain either "Palm" or "Beach" in their name, it can be easy for new residents to get a little confused about where things are.

The county has a 1,970 square-mile area with a population nearing 1.5 million. Being so large, most people think of it in two parts- the north and the south. The north side of Palm Beach County starts with Jupiter, then Juno Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, North Palm Beach and Singer Island. The south side continues down the coast with West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Lake Worth, Delray Beach and Boca Raton.

Major Cities Map

The north end: Jupiter and Juno Beach are lively, beachy towns filled with young families, thriving businesses and many outdoor recreation activities thanks to many state-declared preservation areas. The Jupiter Inlet water is some of the bluest in the state and many boaters go through the channel daily to go deep sea fishing. Below Jupiter and Juno is North Palm Beach, with Singer Island to the east and Palm Beach Gardens to the west. North Palm Beach is small and diverse, Singer Island is lined with condos so luxurious most could only dream of, and Palm Beach Gardens is large, filled with retirees, and also home to 12 different golf courses including the prestigious PGA.

The south end: South Palm Beach County is famous for its booming restaurant and entertainment industry. West Palm Beach has always been a popular spot for both business and pleasure and is the epicenter of the Palm Beaches. Palm Beach is separated from West Palm by the Lake Worth Lagoon. It's an upscale area filled with history from the Gilded Age and is home to Worth Avenue, some of the best shopping and dining around. Lake Worth, Delray, and Boca are all friendly, family-oriented towns with a growing art culture and night life due to many colleges in the area.
