Singer Island Offshore Fishing Tips

Posted by Amanda Hicks on Wednesday, May 30th, 2018 at 1:51pm.

Southeast Florida is known its great game fish like Grouper, Mahi, Tuna and Sailfish. These types of fish put up a good fight and are super rewarding to reel in.

Singer Island has a couple of really good offshore fishing spots where the Amberjack, Snapper and Swordfish hit hard in the summertime. Here's a quick fishing report:

One spot to catch a nice size Amberjack is off Tiara Condos on the island. There are a few shipwrecks out there where the fish like to hangout in 200-300 feet of water. According to local fishermen, the Amberjack out there are caught with goggle eye or blue runner bait. They're hard fighters which makes for a fun reel. The fish are thick and mild in flavor and are known to be mislabeled as Yellowfin Tuna in Japanese restaurants. The best time to hook one is in April and May or August-November.

Another great spot in Singer Island waters is off of Lost Tree Village in North Palm Beach. This fishing hole is seeing lots of Yellowtail Snapper right now, which aren't big game fish but they're very tasty. The pretty fish have a vivid yellow stripe down their body and tails. Most are just under 10 pounds but you can catch plenty at this location to cook up a delicious fresh dinner. The best bait to use for the snapper are sardines with chopped heads.

If you head out about 20 miles off any point of Singer Island you can catch Swordfish. Right now they're averaging 125 pounds and the coast of the island is the best location to reel one in around Palm Beach County. These fish are fast and agile and will really put up a fight. They can grow upto 14 feet and weight more than 1,000 pounds so be prepared to be surprised and make sure you have a good pole.

Chances are you'll catch even more types of fish than those listed above when offshore fishing near Singer Island because of how diverse the reef is and how many wrecks and barges there are out there. Whether you've never been fishing in your life or you're a die-hard waterman, the thrill of reeling in a big one is waiting for you here.

If you don't have a boat, there are a few fishing charters in the area with the tools you need to take home a winner. You can check that out here.
